Cabinets, or LED screen frames, are the modular assembly units from which a LED screen is assembled. Since most LED screens are designed in giant or large format sizes, it is convenient to divide the screen into cabinets that, when put together, form the entire surface of the screen. These cabinets can be designed with different sizes, materials and specific characteristics depending on the type of LED screen that you want to ensemble.


All LED screen cabinets are manufactured so that it is easy to access their internal components to perform maintenance tasks. This access can be done from the front or back of the LED screen.


Rear maintenance cabinet: rear maintenance cabinets usually have doors on the back of the screen. They require the back of the screen to be accessible and for a minimum space that will allow the operator to open the doors and access the interior of the cabinet.


Front maintenance cabinet: in this type of cabinet, the LED modules can be extracted from the front of the screen. This allows access to internal components and is especially useful for wall installations or when the back of the screen cannot be accessed.


Cabinets can be manufactured in different materials depending on the specific application of the screen. The most usual materials are:


Steel: resistant and fully customizable, it is usually used in fixed installation screens both indoors and outdoors. This material is the most used for conventional outdoor screens. This material is treated with special paints to prevent corrosion.


Aluminium: aluminium cabinets are used in fixed and mobile installation applications to reduce the weight of the screen. It is possible to manufacture cabinets, both indoor and outdoor, in aluminium for fixed installation screens, although it is not usual due to its high price and is only used for screens used in events and fairs.


Plastic or Resins with composite: they are used in mobile installations where the brightness of the screen is a critical factor. This material is used by very few manufacturers and, as it is a recent innovation, the total time which these plastics can be in permanent contact with external corrosion is unknown. (According to their quality they can crack and lose the permeability and rigidity). The main advantage they have is their reduced weight, compared to aluminium and iron, but it is still an unfrequently used material, so its price is quite steep.



LED screens that are located in outdoor areas need some cabinets designed to withstand all kinds of weather conditions. That is why it is necessary for the materials and design to be well prepared for it. There are a variety of designs but the most common and those that are better value for money are the ones with a double back door. Their simplicity in assembly and resistance in outdoor conditions have made them a standard. When using resistant materials outdoors, their weight is usually the highest compared to other cabinets, so they tend to be around 40-54Kg / m2.



This type of cabinet is used in areas where the screen is not subject all-weather conditions, so sheet thicknesses are reduced and have more openings. With this, it is possible to reduce its weight around 20-35Kg / m2. Their good price ratio makes them the most used element for indoor LED screens in stores and shops.



This type of cabinets designed for outdoor screens placed on walls or facades, have a special design to make it easier for the screen to be mounted on a wall. In addition, this type of cabinet uses designs that enable frontal maintenance, since it cannot be accessed from the rear. This type of cabinet is characterized by being lighter and having more advanced union systems. Its special design and access to front maintenance make cabinets much more expensive than other more conventional cabinets.


Nowadays, there are a great number of LED screens in all sizes in most events or exhibitions. These screens share the same peculiarity. They have to be light, easy to transport and assemble. Therefore, these screens are designed with lightweight materials and have quick-assembly joining mechanisms. This type of cabinet has pre-established sizes as they are made with extruded aluminium in the mould. This type of cabinets is the most expensive due to the complexity in their manufacture and when manufactured under special moulds it is not possible to customize their size.



Cabinets are elements that are already manufactured at pre-established sizes, so the user has to adapt their size to the existing cabinet sizes. Some professional manufacturers offer the possibility of manufacturing LED screens in totally customized sizes. This process requires slightly longer manufacturing and delivery times, since it is necessary to adapt and design the cabinets to the requested size. The great advantage offered by this customization is that the total size of the screen will adapt perfectly to the required installation, thus achieving a greater surface area.
